Everyone has heard the saying, “bigger is better.” This can pertain to having a bigger house, working for a bigger company, a job that pays better, living in a bigger city with more arts and recreational opportunities, and the list can go on and on.
However, the older I get, the more I continue to be happy and content with smaller communities. Sure, you might not be able to quickly get to the Guthrie Theater or Target Field living where we do in rural Minnesota, but I believe taking a little drive in the country, not having to waste time in “rush” hour traffic, being able to go for relaxing walk in the park or run on the streets and things of that nature more than make up for it.
Living in a smaller community doesn’t always mean having lesser quality of businesses either. Sometimes I think people choose to shop in bigger cities because of the stigma these places must always have the better quality at the better price.
I am willing to admit to shopping online and getaway travels once in a while, but many times if we look at our community, we see that we have much of what we need right here.
For example, each summer I organize summer baseball tours to many Major League Baseball games around the country and we have a chance to see the sights of our country and the company I choose for our transportation is Thielen Coaches of Redwood Falls. They are truly second to none.
I have been working with Rick Thielen on these tours for 18 years. Harvey Mackay wrote an article in the local Redwood Gazette a few years ago about taking pride in your work. Rick and Joe, along with the rest of their staff, live the Mackay article based on my years of observation. The coaches we hire are always of the highest quality and extremely clean. The organization of the drivers, led by Jesse Keehl, is always top notch.
I cannot tell you how many times during over the past decade when I have had customers come up to compliment the busses and drivers. Their dedication to excellence is very much appreciated by those who travel on their coaches. After a day long tour of Manhattan the previous summer before COVID-19, a local New Yorker who was hired to be our guide commented that our driver was one of the best she has ever seen navigate through the city.
I have seen and talked with others about different bus companies, and there is simply no one better. If you take pride in your work, as they do at Thielen Coaches, you can live in a small community and truly be second to none.
